Research into efficacy of program processes and evaluation of the ‘Ballajura Connect’ program

The project aims to provide children with positive relationships, support and encouragement outside the family system and education system. The project does not directly change family conditions, or other social conditions, but aims to provide support to children to enable them to cope better with their environment and to achieve success, and receive external validation in one domain within their life.

The project evaluation is an integral part of the overall project. It has two purposes:

  • To provide formative feedback so that agency staff know how the project is progressing and which elements of the project may need adjustment, and
  • To provide summative feedback on the project outcomes for the funding body and the agency.

To fulfil these outcomes, the evaluation will use an action research methodology.

The project is intended to provide a holistic response that will contribute to change in several aspects of children’s lives including:

  • Attitudes and performance at school
  • Engagement in out of school activities
  • Amelioration of some factors that place children at risk of early entry into the justice system.
