Overview

ECU Galleries

ECU Galleries are committed to building diverse audiences, accessibility and developing a community of practice. Arts led research is also a priority.

The galleries:

  • are committed to highlighting cultural stories, to presenting exhibitions and events that are relevant to the student population and experience,
  • are a valuable support for learning and teaching activities, inspiring creativity, interdisciplinary and collaboration in research.

The galleries provide:

  • premier exhibition space, featuring doctoral candidates, emerging/early/mid/established-career artists and curators, and the ECU Art Collection,
  • a site for risk and speculation where the process of creativity is as important as the outcome,
  • an engaged and inspiring program of contemporary exhibitions,
  • a laboratory for exploration and experimentation with an inclusive approach to creativity, and
  • a site for multi/cross/inter/trans disciplinary approaches to research.

Spectrum Project Space

Burrow (Collapse) explores bee species and habitat through ceramics and ornamentation. Developing from an interest in animal (insect) architecture, the romantic idealisation of the natural world and rituals and reverence around porcelain objects.

Zam Zaag

ZAM ZAAG, is a collaboration between Mongolian artist Ariuntuya Jambaldorj and US artist Diana Chester made during a residency in Mongolia in 2023. This exhibition explores both the issue of water scarcity in Mongolia and the boundaries that are created by the dried-up riverbeds. This work is made entirely from materials gathered, recorded, and documented in the Gobi Desert.

They Are Watching

Gallery25

They Are Watching, present a diverse array of contemporary portraiture encompassing various artistic mediums such as painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, digital painting, mixed media works, and AI. The exhibition will include artworks by both emerging talents and established artists from across the globe, emphasizing the worldwide importance of portraiture in today’s art scene.
