Fragmented Memories – Ruth Halbert & Jane Ziemons

Fragmented Memories is a collaborative exhibition by School of Arts and Humanities alumni Ruth Halbert and Jane Ziemons. Working with an investigative multidisciplinary approach towards textiles, garment, installation, film and sound, they consider identity and memory. Recreating, layering and re-forming events, fleeting moments, sadness, joy and conversations. Having experienced life when memory was aided by limited physical recollections through objects, such as hand-written diaries and still photos, both artists know a very different world than that of the current digital sharing overload of Facebook and Instagram. Bachelard equates pre-digital memory with imagination: actively created with the senses.

Ruth Halbert

Graduating with a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts in 2012, awarded 303LOWE Award for best graduate work. She has exhibited locally and internationally, in solo, group and juried shows, and has been an artist-in-residence at Rud AIR, Dasland, Sweden.

Jane Ziemons

A graduate of Contemporary Fashion and Textiles from Edith Cowan University, Scottish born Australian artist and educator Jane Ziemons has a multidisciplinary arts practice that encompasses the development of narrative textile collections and utilises traditional printmaking techniques along with slow stitch and sashiko embroidery. Her practice values intensive research, experimental mark making and the value of deep reflection.

Ziemons thoughtfully creates work with the intention to provide the viewer with a moment of deep connection to cloth and the self.
