Brian King is Professor and Associate Dean in Tourism and Hospitality at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to relocating to Hong Kong from Australia in 2012 he held various leadership roles at Victoria University, Melbourne including as Head of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Marketing and then as Pro Vice-Chancellor. He holds a PhD from Monash University and Masters degrees from the University of Strathclyde and Aberdeen University (Scotland).
He teaches and conducts research on cultural tourism in Asia and on hospitality leadership and has published books and articles on integrated resorts, marketing, VFR travel and Asia-Pacific tourism. He has a particular interest in Chinese tourism. He is Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international refereed journal Tourism, Culture & Communication. His industry experience includes manager and/or director roles in airlines, tour operations, destination management, cruise operations and hotels. He has held visiting professorships in Europe, North America and the Pacific and is an elected Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism and of the Council of Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE). He received the Qantas “outstanding contribution by an individual” award at the Victorian Tourism Awards (Melbourne) in 2018. He chairs the THE-ICE (International Centre of Excellence) accreditation panel and was inducted into the THE-ICE Hall of Fame in 2017.
In addition to scholarly interests he plays (strictly amateur!) in various orchestra and chamber music groups.
