Dr Alistair Campbell lectures across a range of subjects in the School of Business and Law at ECU, with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation.
Alistair has teaching and research experience spanning more than 20 years at universities in Australia and overseas. This has included large and small classes, across a wide cultural diversity. Subjects have ranged from engineering to management and entrepreneurship.
At University of Adelaide his recent involvement was to convert and then deliver a number of courses online, in subjects such as Corporate Entrepreneurship and post-graduate research projects. Before that, at the University of South Australia he was Program Director for the development of a new industry-focused Masters degree in Systems Engineering (aka Complex Project Management) on which he also taught a number of courses.
At the Australian Institute of Business (AIB), a family business in higher-education accredited to DBA-PhD level, he was manager for all teaching and learning activities. This supported some 1500 students, in Adelaide and at international teaching centres in Egypt, Guyana, Ireland, St Lucia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago, UK and Vietnam.
His research has ventured into a number fields (innovation, project management, systems engineering, not-for-profit ventures, education) but an abiding interest is the non-linear thinking and relational worldview that entrepreneurs use in creating new products and services. He has supervised a number of PhDs to completion and served as external examiner for PhD and Masters theses in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Before moving to Australia, at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CP UoT) his roles included senior lecturer, co-director of a research centre, chair of the research committee, and assistant dean of engineering. During this time he undertook a year's sabbatical for PhD research under Prof Murray Gillin AM at the Australian Graduate School of Business (AGSE), and also taught and co-ordinated MBA courses for the AGSE.
Before coming to academe, Alistair spent 12 years in industry, first in project management for the South African Railways overseeing the installation, testing and certification of safety-critical track systems, and then running his own Industrial Electronics business for several years.
