Earlier this week School of Business and Law had the pleasure of hosting the Perth Keynote event for the Australia New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) 2021 Conference and guest of honour Graham Kerr, CEO, South32.
A mild November evening at the newly opened WA Museum Boola Bardip, Hackett Hall, set the scene for a conversation sparking dialogue on leadership, South32 and well beyond.
During the seating conversation between Graham Kerr and Professor Peter Galvin, Graham led the audience through the journey of his career up to the CEO of South32, his leadership styles, working from home and the impact of the pandemic, cultural differences in leadership and social license to operate around the world, the juggle of family life, as well as addressed a range of audience questions on sustainability and gender equality in South32 and the mining industry.
Professor Peter Galvin, who had the pleasure of working with Graham Kerr leading up the event, mentions how Graham’s transparent and authentic style as a leader is not only a leadership style of his, but his true persona.
“What I found fascinating from the discussions with Graham was how particular postings around the world were fundamental in driving his vision for how a mining company should engage with the local community. This local engagement approach has been the backbone of South 32’s success as it operates across four continents.”
After the dialogue and open floor Q&A session, guests were invited to enjoy the impressive in-room WA Museum displays over delicious refreshments to keep the conversations going and network.
A warm thank you to our event sponsors Business Events Perth, as well as WA Museum Boola Bardip, and our event suppliers for making this a successful evening.
