Congratulations to ECU MBA student Amy Zahra for being awarded a prestigious Zonta business scholarship.

The Zonta International Jane M Klaussman Women in Business Scholarship program was established to help women pursue degrees in business management with the objective of reducing gender barriers and increasing the number of women on boards and in senior positions.

Amy is the only 2022 recipient from Australia.

Amy said that the award recognises academic achievement along with extracurricular involvement in projects that, in particular, support women. She is a member of ECU Women in Business as well as Women in Project Management.

As a sole parent, Amy has juggled her studies with work and parenting.

She said that the flexibility of the course enabled her to manage the competing demands and that the lecturers, in particular MBA Coordinator Judy Lundy, have been very supportive.  ‘She made me feel like I mattered to ECU’.

Amy was a teacher, ran a small business and also completed a Graduate Certificate in Project Management before starting the MBA.  She is currently working as a business development manager for manufacturing company Miele.

Zonta is an organisation that believes in making the world a better place by empowering women.   Amy found about the scholarship program from a fellow MBA student and applied through the Perth Northern Suburbs club.

At a presentation ceremony in early November, Amy was described as ‘not only does Amy excel academically, she embodies the professional and entrepreneurial; spirit of the Jane M Klausman Women in Business Scholarship as well as the compassion and service enshrined within Zonta’.
