Background

Dr. Michael Volgger, BSc, Mag., is Senior Research Fellow with the School of Marketing, Curtin Business School at Curtin University, and Co-Director of the Tourism Research Cluster (TRC) at Curtin University as well as Senior Research Affiliate at Eurac Research in Italy. He holds a doctoral degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt in Germany. Prior to joining Curtin University in 2017, Michael has been a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional Development and Location Management at Eurac Research in Italy.

Since 2010, Michael has been part of teams that have successfully applied for grants for projects that received government and industry support in the order of 800,000 AUD in Australia and Europe. Since 2010, he has published a monograph, co-edited one research book, two special issues in academic journals and one special issue of a divulgation-oriented journal. In addition, he has published 16 peer reviewed academic journal articles (3 of them in A*-classified and 1 in A-classified journals according to ABDC), 29 research book chapters and 15 major industry or government reports. Moreover, he has presented at more than 30 academic conferences and conducted more than 40 industry presentations.

Research interests

Michael’s main areas of expertise and interest include tourism destination governance and location management, product development and innovation in tourism, sharing economy, cross-cultural product adaptation, inter-organisational cooperation and qualitative research.
