Study Tours

Study Tours are a type of program that can involve customised academic and cultural activities and are led by an Academic staff member. Study tours normally run from two to four weeks.

The School of Business and Law have organised study tours to Bhutan, Borneo, Japan and China partnering with Royal Thimphu College, Tokyo City University, Kyoto Sangyo University, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Ocean University.

Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with students and professionals in their area of study as well as participating in a range of cultural and social activities. Students may receive Government or University funding to participate in these study tours.

Student Exchange

As an ECU student you have the opportunity to study for one or two semesters at an overseas ECU Exchange Partner and gain credit towards your ECU degree. Likewise, our partners' students can undertake an exchange at ECU and receive credit at their home institution. We have around 90 exchange partners in 35 countries.

Study Abroad

You can also undertake study at an overseas University which is not an ECU Exchange Partner, as a "Study Abroad" student, rather than an "Exchange" student. See the Study abroad webpage for more information.

Partner Schools

We have partnerships with about 90 institutions in 35 countries around the world; and if you go on exchange for two semesters, you can even choose to study in two different countries.

Funding Opportunities

Did you know, as a Domestic student you could be eligible for a $3000 grant to travel overseas on a study tour? This can be used towards flights, accommodation and more. There are a range of funding sources that ECU students may be eligible for, to assist in undertaking some study overseas. See the Financial assistance webpage for more information.

Government Funding

The Australian Government, through the Department of Education and Training and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), administers different funding programs to encourage the outbound mobility of Australian students. The Department of Education and Training also has programs to support international students having an inbound experience and coming to ECU. The International Office is responsible for coordinating the University's applications, acceptance and acquittal of Australian Government mobility funding as well as the allocation and distribution of awarded Australian Government mobility grants to ECU students.
