The Children’s University WA Partnership team at ECU were delighted to partner with the Schools of; Medical and Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery and Business and Law to offer 113 young Children’s University (CU) participants and family members a range of educational, fun and hands-on workshops during the July School Holiday Program, at the Joondalup campus.

CU families had fun creating buyer persona avatars in the Digital Hub delivered by Dr Stephanie Meek from the School of Business and Law, who shared her passion for learning and expertise in this field.

Other CU members learnt about gut microbiome and the importance of a heathy gut during the “Gut Health and Blue Poo Challenge” workshop facilitated by Dr Jo Rees, Tina Yan and the team from the School of Medical and Health Sciences. As one keen scholar stated, “The blue cupcakes were delicious, I am wondering what my poo will look like?” (CU member).

During the School of Nursing and Midwifery “Glitter Bug hands” workshop hosted by Jj Jennings, CU members visited ECU’s amazing hospital demonstration wards to experience a simulated clinical environment. They also participated in a fun training session to meet the bacteria that hides on our skin’s surface whilst learning about the importance of hand washing techniques.

Meanwhile, Mr Ruben Phillips from the School of Medical and Health Sciences offered his “HeartWorx” workshop in ECU’s Science Super Labs giving participants the opportunity to explore how the heart works and to use specialised Bio-medical equipment to measure heart rate.

A massive thank you to ECU workshop facilitators for generously offering their expertise and time and giving our CU families fantastic learning opportunities here on campus.

The CU School holiday programs here at ECU aim to foster a love of learning, nurture aspirations and encourage children to discover new passions. As stated by members who participated in this event;

“It is a fantastic workshop I hope other kids like me can come” and “It was amazing to experience university”.
