Better Beginnings Family Literacy Program: Kindergarten

This project will evaluate the impact of Better Beginnings family literacy program for Kindergarten. This research builds on our evaluation of Better Beginnings 4-5yrs program 2013. Better Beginnings Kindergarten consists of a reading pack given to children attending kindergarten classes in Western Australian schools. Ten schools (6 metropolitan and 4 regional) will be invited to participate. The program coordinator and professionals involved in the distribution of the program will be invited to be interviewed about program content, implementation and impact. Parents / carers who receive the program will be invited to complete a written survey on their perceptions and use of the program.

The aim of this research is to build on previous findings and to:

  1. Identify the ongoing impact and sustainability of the Kindergarten program on the participants and stakeholders involved in the longitudinal evaluation of Better Beginnings.
  2. Evaluate the implementation and outcomes of the Kindergarten program on a new cohort of participants within the established longitudinal evaluation communities.
