Artworks in residence: Young children’s responses to adult created visual artworks as viewed first-hand within the classroom context

This PhD study aims to investigate how young children’s responses to artworks are socially mediated; how their communication is trans-mediated through talk, embodiment and the creation of their own artworks; and how their responses change over time. Videos are used to capture and analyse children’s experiences within their everyday classroom context where a series of original works of art by local artists provide the semiotic tools for the development of understandings.
