Maximising student engagement for learning through teacher and student interactions

This research aims to investigate the interactions between teachers and students in the first year of compulsory schooling (Pre-primary in WA). Classroom quality will be examined in the domains of emotional support, classroom organisation and instructional support with the purpose of identifying and measuring student engagement in quality learning experiences. The research tools selected for this study provide an understanding of student engagement through observed interactions, as well as student and teacher perspectives. These tools are designed to not only identify quality practices that engage students in learning, but also to provide a consistent language to articulate how this transpires in different classroom contexts.
