Mr Hossein Parast Vand

Hossein is a PhD student at the smart energy research group at ECU. His research project title is " Micro-grid System Identification and Control: DC-bus Voltage Regulation in the SELab"

Research Project Brief Description:

Micro-grids play an important role in attaining a flexible and sustainable power grid. The heart of a dynamical system such as microgrid (MG) is its controller, which guarantees the stability and desired performance. During the last decade, there have been attempts to develop the MG controllers using different strategies. However, there is still considerable potential for further discoveries particularly in extending the existing control theories. During this study both theoretical and practical aspects of MG control problem will be addressed.Through the experimental part, the mathematical model or characteristic curves of the photo-voltaic (PV) cells and wind turbine in the SELab will be identified, upon which, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm could be implemented on micro or local level. The energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cell will be used as compensatory tools for power flow management. In the macro or MG level, all units will contribute to the dc-bus voltage regulation through their dedicated converters. The ultimate aim here is to set up an MG configuration which provides a unique platform for implementing many theories and algorithms.
