Mr Navid Mousavi

Navid is a PhD student at the smart energy group at ECU. His research project title is "The integration of pumped hydro storage systems into hybrid microgrids in rural areas"

Research Project Brief Description:

Renewable energy sources (RESs) are popular in rural areas because they provide low cost and clean electricity for homes and irrigation systems. The major challenge of RESs is their intermittent nature. A typical solution is storing energy in batteries, but these are expensive and have a short lifespan. Therefore, this project proposes the integration of a new type of pumped hydro storage (PHS) system into hybrid microgrids, instead of batteries, to reduce both the capital and operating costs of microgrids in rural areas. My research aims to modify the conventional PHS system to make it more cost-effective than batteries and to design an energy management system to decrease electricity costs in rural areas.
