Nutrition and Dietetics Research Group

The research

Nutrition & Dietetics Research Team at ECU translate nutritional research into practice with a view to improve health outcomes for all Australians. Food and nutrition as medicine can optimise health, reduce the risk of chronic disease and improve development and performance. It is within these parameters that the research team produces outputs and impacts across the broader Australian community.

The team has several research pillars:

  • Nutrition Education and Food Literacy;
  • Gut Health;
  • Chronic Disease and Clinical Nutrition;
  • Food Security;
  • Life Course Nutrition.

We work with other research teams across ECU, with other national universities and internationally, to understand the role of nutrition across the life course.

Current research projects and active areas of involvement include:

  • Nutrition education for schools and teachers, the early years and aged care sector
  • Food literacy and food security for regional and remote Australians and homeless and vulnerable groups
  • Food provision in the early year’s sector
  • Gut health in children, adults and those who chose specific diets such as Palaeolithic and FODMAPS, Autistic children
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Musculoskeletal health
  • Epidemiology of ageing well and productively
  • ECU Lifestyle and Biomarker Get Connected Study including the Jamie’s Ministry of Food WA participant experience
