Doreen is the School Laboratory Manager overseeing all laboratory activities in research, teaching, collaborative community programs and visits for the School of Medical & Health Sciences. Her role includes the overall management of the technical staff team and all of the material resources and equipment used in teaching and research.

Doreen is extremely motivated in providing the highest level of safety across the School and University which was recognised by a previous VC Award. She chaired the OSH Committee of a former faculty and continues to be an Elected Health and Safety Representative of many years standing. She is currently the chair of the School OSH Committee and is Executive Officer for the newly formed ECU Radiation, Biosafety and Hazardous Substances Committee, the ECU contact for the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for quarantine matters.

Doreen came to the then WA College of Advanced Education in February 1990 as a part time Laboratory Technician bringing with her many laboratory skills after working across all disciplines of pathology in a UK hospital for over eighteen years. She practiced as a registered Medical Laboratory Scientific Officer, majoring in Medical Microbiology. After arriving in Australia, she first worked as a Technician for a private pathology service and as a sales representative for a medical company.

Her tertiary qualifications culminated in being awarded a Master of Public Health (Majoring in Occupational Safety and Health) in 2003. Other formal qualifications achieved are related to Medical Laboratory Sciences and Medical Microbiology together with an array of vocational subjects.
