Two hundred and thirty School of Science students and participants, dedicated to ensuring world ready and work ready graduates attended the School of Science Get Connected Careers 2018 on the 15 March.

An opening address was given by the School of Science Executive Dean, Prof Andrew Woodward.  This was followed by speeches from two School Of Science alumni, Evan Webb who completed a Bachelor of Science, Environmental Management in 2016 and Rid Shahria, who completed a Bachelor of Computer Science in 2016. A buzz of excitement then manifested as students enthusiastically engaged in conversations with industry representatives about career opportunities and how to best ready themselves for employment and the opportunities on offer. A cross section of students participated, from students nearing graduation to newly commencing students.  It was fantastic to see such energy and enthusiasm from all involved!!!

Students were given a lanyard with a passport attached as they entered the event. They were tasked with engaging with industry representatives at the booths, in a meaningful career related discussion.  Each engagement earnt them a stamp on their passport.  The aim was to encourage the understanding that employability is more than classes, assignments and exams, it is about people, communication, collaboration and lifelong learning. Once they had completed their passport they could enter the prize draw for Co-op vouchers or the grand prize of a Surface Laptop i5.

Food and refreshments were enjoyed along with a photo booth, where students were able to have professional photos taken, to use as their LinkedIn profile picture.

A huge thank you goes out to our industry partners.  We value the contribution that they make to our School and ECU as a whole. Many of the representatives at the event were looking to recruit our students through Graduate Programs, offer Work Integrated Learning opportunities or contribute to our course consultative committees. Events like this are only made possible because of their ongoing support through the giving of their time and expertise.

“I would like to congratulate ECU on the event last Thurs I thought it was an excellent achievement and well worth attending by both students and others and trust it will become an annual event”.  Sharon Brown, Sharon Brown and Associates.
