Seven members of CMER recently attended the Australian Marine Sciences Association Conference, held in Fremantle, with the 2019 theme of ‘Marine Science for a Blue Economy’. Among the approximately 550 delegates at the conference were three of our postgraduate students, Caitlyn O’Dea, Connor Gorham and Chanelle Webster, who presented some of their research findings in symposia focused on the Swan River Estuary, blue carbon and ecological extremes. All did a fantastic job of presenting their research and emphasising the implications for ongoing management of our coastal resources. As reported elsewhere, Caitlyn was awarded the Ernest Hodgkin Estuary Prize for the best presentation related to the understanding and management of estuaries – a fantastic outcome given this was her first presentation at a conference!
