Monitoring the health of seagrasses in Geographe Bay

Dr Kathryn McMahon has been funded by the Geographe Catchment Council (GeoCatch) to develop a monitoring program to understand the impacts of agriculture and urbanisation on the health of seagrass meadows in Geographe Bay. She is working collaboratively with GeoCatch to establish an annual monitoring program using seagrasses as an indicator for the possible effects of nutrient enrichment in Geographe Bay, with the long-term goal of assessing how the indicators change over time. The shoot density of P. sinuosa seagrass and tissue nutrient concentrations are the key indicators being used.
