ECU has operated cyber ranges since 2003 and has extensive laboratories and cyber ranges including but not limited to IT, SCADA, Wireless, Zigbee, IoT, SDN and MQTT for research and teaching.
In 2020 ECU opened a new 2 million dollar training and operational Security Operations Centre (SOC). This has state of the art equipment and facilities to conduct experiments in advanced cyber security, advanced research into the human element in cyber security incident response as well. In 2019, Cisco, Juniper and ECU collaborated to create a 1.5 million value dollar upgrade of existing network infrastructure in the ECUSRI network laboratories.
A new interdisciplinary focus for ECUSRI is cybersecurity education. Working with the School of Education at ECU, we are exploring university cybersecurity education including its curriculum design, teaching approaches and relevance to industry. Coupled with that is the design of effective professional development for current cybersecurity workers. In collaboration with the Schools of Arts and Humanities and Nursing and Midwifery, we are also exploring psychological and physiological components of stress in cybersecurity work. This includes the ability of cybersecurity workers to cope with the industry's demands, alongside their aptitude, potential and capacity to remain at the top of their game.
