Description

This unit deepens the understanding of movement for the actor with technical skills necessary for the professional actor including dance partnering work, stage combat and continued physical preparation for performance as applied to the production program. All classes call for presence, rigour heightening physical understanding and self-awareness, resulting in greater confidence and skills as an embodied actor.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Create an effective and credible stage fight.
  2. Demonstrate self-discipline in processing, body, mind and breath connection.
  3. Execute rehearsed partner dance sequences from a range of dance genres with strength, endurance and coordination for a theatrical context.
  4. Implement detailed movement strategies to support character development in the context of a play to ensure full embodiment and theatrical focus in rehearsal and performance.
  5. Integrate weight, time, space and stillness as it relates to movement and performance.

Unit Content

  1. Advanced exploration and application of physical dynamics, devising and movement for stage and screen.
  2. Body and mind practice.
  3. Partner dance technique.
  4. Stage combat technique.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Movement studio, intensive workshops, small group solo and duo exercises, video recording for analysis, in studio performance to students and staff. Self-reflection, observation and class feedback and discussion.
