Description

This unit provides practical preparation for working in contemporary broadcast media. It covers basic instruction in vocal technique and presentation skills, including reading, ad-libbing, interviewing, and observation/description. Technical skills include basic digital audio recording and editing. Students will evaluate a range of broadcasting presentation styles in the context of target audiences, and employ the principles of gathering and conveying information for broadcast.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the relationship between broadcast programs and target audience.
  2. Compare the presentation styles of a range of broadcasters.
  3. Demonstrate basic interviewing, ad-libbing, observation/description and vocal techniques associated with audio broadcasting.
  4. Plan and research material for broadcast.
  5. Record and edit digital audio materials.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
