Description

A self directed project in either an applied or theoretical field forms the core of this independent study unit. Students will be admitted into this unit only after they have demonstrated a satisfactory level of competence in their chosen field. The project undertaken by a student must receive approval before it is commenced. Students will be expected to identify and contact a suitable supervisor within the School to oversee their progress on one agreed substantial project.

Prerequisite Rule

Must have course WAM equal to or greater than 70

Equivalent Rule

Unit was previously coded CMM3108, WRT3217

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply developed critical or practical skills in response to real challenges in their chosen fields.
  2. Develop the general skill of presentation of projects to various audiences.
  3. Operate independently to a deadline, producing work of a significant quality.
  4. Produce substantial evidence of achievement in a specific field.

Unit Content

  1. Practical experience in the chosen area.
  2. Preparation and presentation of a detailed report.
  3. Preparation of a detailed programme of work, including objectives, content, deadlines and evaluation procedures.
  4. Production of a substantial project.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students are required to attend occasional seminars organised by the unit coordinator and liaise with their supervisor on ascheduled basis via a series of documented brief meetings.
