Description

This unit aims to develop the skills and capabilities required for quality research that has impact. Communication skills will be developed in presenting and publishing research for different audiences. This unit will help students develop an understanding of research translation, impact and engagement. This unit will also help prepare students for diverse career paths in research and develop the required professional skills for these. Students will have the opportunity to develop engagement and communication strategies that are aligned to their discipline in collaboration with their supervisors.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

Lectures in this unit will alternate between Mt Lawley and Joondalup campuses, with some sessions video conferenced. Material will be available online.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Effectively communicate research in a variety of formats to different audiences.
  2. Work collaboratively in teams, and demonstrate capability for successful negotiation and networking.
  3. Articulate research and research outcomes.
  4. Prepare research reports suitable for publication.
  5. Understand the impact of cross-cultural and international perspectives in research dissemination.
  6. Apply contemporary technologies to facilitate the demonstration and dissemination of research findings.

Unit Content

  1. Understanding and engaging with different audiences to convey the significance and impact of research.
  2. Preparing and delivering successful research presentations for different audiences.
  3. Identifying different forms of publication relevant to research; understand the peer review process and authorship issues.
