Description

This unit is designed to enable undergraduate students to undertake a project involving an international offshore experience which is relevant to their discipline. This project aims to provide students with personal experience of relevant discipline knowledge applicable to their course of study. The project will provide students with an opportunity to draw together theory and practice in the country or region visited. Acceptance to this unit will be by application only. Students will be required to submit a research proposal prior to undertaking the study tour.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the complexities of the relevant discipline area in an international context.
  2. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the major social, political, cultural and economic challenges facing the relevant discipline area.
  3. Identify recent trends in the internationalisation and globalisation of the relevant discipline area.
  4. Increase cultural awareness and cross-cultural skills by understanding the interrelationships between cultures.

  1. Cultural elements and sensitivities.
  2. International contexts of the discipline.
  3. Legal frameworks and government regulations.
  4. Project methodology.
  5. Social structures.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Participation in an intensive study tour to a country or region. The study tour involves a combination of lectures, briefings, meetings, presentations and site visits depending on the location of the tour.

GS2 GRADING SCHEMA 2 Used for Undifferentiated Pass/Fail units inc. practical units or work-integrated learning

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
