Description

This unit provides a professionally supervised, contracted learning experience in a range of workplaces. It emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to workplace problems that involve planning, research and implementation. Students are responsible for finding the host organisation and are required to report back to their academic coordinator. A learning agreement, entered into by the student, workplace supervisor and academic coordinator, determines the specific content and teaching and learning processes, together with the skills and competencies to be acquired and demonstrated.

(Students must pass 240 credit points AND Permission required)

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Create a personal portfolio which reflects the professional placement and other work experience.
  2. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in the workplace.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of specific skills and procedures related to the workplace.
  4. Display initiative, reliability and competence in their designated duties.
  5. Plan and make the initial contact to secure the placement.

Unit Content

  1. Complete a workplace journal and/or portfolio that records and critically evaluates the learning experiences.
  2. Meet employer's expectations of reliability, competency and overall professionalism and demonstrate an ability to act on informed initiative where appropriate.
  3. Plan and make the initial contact with a relevant employer for the equivalent of at least 22 days (one day a week plus a 10 day block is recommended).
  4. Satisfactorily complete work to the workplace standard specified in the agreement and demonstrate competency in workplace skills and procedures.
  5. Write an individual learning agreement, to be signed by the student, employer and academic supervisor.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Regular contact with academic supervisor and Professional work experience.
