Description

Students will develop an understanding of surveillance as a means to monitor and control environments. Students will examine the concept and nature of surveillance, the human and ethical aspect of surveillance, and the pervasive and exploitative nature of surveillance in the modern world. The broad spectrum of surveillance systems and technologies will be examined, resulting in a critical case study of surveillance in contemporary society.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Debate the theories, concepts and nature of surveillance.
  2. Identify the surveillance systems and technologies in society.
  3. Consolidate written and spoken communication skills in security science.

  5. Discuss the ethics of surveillance.
