Unit Set Information

Marine and Freshwater Science Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2021 : Code MAMAFW

The major is designed for students with an interest in aquatic environments. Students study biological and physical processes that occur in both marine and freshwater systems, and develop skills to enable them to contribute to management and understanding of water-based ecosystems. There is an emphasis on the continuity of these environments across the transition from fresh water to estuarine and marine systems. Students combining this major with Biological Science will be well-skilled in understanding the biological aspects of the aquatic realm, while those studying a second major in either Conservation Biology or Environmental Management will have a skill set suited to management of marine systems. Those interested in working in fisheries should ensure that they include additional mathematics and computing among their course electives.
