About this VET Stream

This study option provides training in theatrical lighting and technology for the live production industry.

Students develop skills and knowledge in lighting design, lighting operation, vision systems, electronics, and project management. Areas of study include electronics, design process, vision systems, digital media, project management, budgeting, and lighting console operation.

Special entry requirements

All applicants are required to attend an interview. To be considered for the Lighting course, applicants must present the following materials during their interview: *CAD Drawing Example – A sample demonstrating your ability to create and present a drawing using CAD software. *An Eos showfile showcasing fundamental proficiency, backed by a basic understanding of Eos Family Software either through Level 1 Essentials training or equivalent hands-on programming experience. *Lighting Portfolio – A compilation of documents used in lighting for productions, demonstrating your technical expertise and organisational skills.

Important notes

  • Applicants/students must complete CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card) and RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights, with equivalents considered.

  • Students may be required to attend and/or support evening and weekend performances and rehearsals. These may be at locations external to WAAPA, ECU.

Graduates are employed in a professional capacity as head electricians, lighting technicians and programmers in the live production industry, including theatre, corporate, events and concerts.
