About this VET Stream

The costume stream is structured to provide training in the techniques and processes required for advanced construction and management of costumes and accessories for theatre and live performance.

Students develop skills and knowledge in advanced pattern making, period costume, corsetry and undergarments, and costumes for dance and physical movement. Other production and design specific units include work health and safety and management processes. Students also gain skills in the management of costumes for production, which incorporates budgeting, scheduling, costume manufacture, and supervising studio and backstage processes.

Special entry requirements

All applicants are required to have completed CUACOS405 Develop expertise in pattern development for costume, with equivalents considered.

Important notes

  • Applicants/students must complete CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card), with equivalents considered.

  • Students may be required to attend and/or support evening and weekend rehearsals and performances. The may be at locations external to WAAPA, ECU.
