We're ranked one of the world's best universities under 50 years old, and we've already established a global reputation for such a young institution.

About this Specialisation

This specialisation is designed for students interested in chemical engineering and provides the foundations for an engineering technologist career in chemical engineering aligned industries, both in Australia and internationally.

This chemical engineering unit set provides graduates with knowledge of how materials and chemicals interact, or can be converted in some way to a more useful form, as part of a processing, production or refining process, and provides the necessary foundation for the completion of the accredited Master of Engineering with a chemical engineering specialisation.

Notes

Learning Outcomes

  1. Reflect critically on a complex body of knowledge, research principles and methods within the chemical engineering discipline to demonstrate mastery of professional practice.
  2. Apply cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, evaluate and synthesise complex ideas, concepts and theories in authentic chemical engineering situations.
  3. Apply high level communication and collaboration skills in a professional chemical engineering context.
  4. Use high level self-management skills to initiate, plan and execute a substantial chemical engineering project.

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities

Chemical engineers/technologists work in a wide range of domains from mineral processing, mining, and oil and gas, through to industries associated with clothing, food, packaging, fertilisers, pharmaceuticals and many other manufacturing and biological processes. Many chemical engineers/technologists find career opportunities in the extensive mining, mineral processing, and oil and gas industries that dominate the industrial profile of the state. Chemical engineers/technologists play a central role in both the production, refining and down stream processing in these important resource-based industries.

Possible future job titles

Chemical Engineer, Process Engineer, Petrochemical Engineer, Process Control Engineer, Mineral Processing Engineer, Environmental Engineer
