The Bachelor of Creative and Performing Arts (Honours) course, with several streams including Creative Arts, Dance and Performance Making, provides students with an opportunity to focus in depth on a particular research topic of their choice while also receiving further research training at fourth year Honours level. Students can focus on their chosen discipline which includes Creative Arts, Dance or Performance Making. Students are guided through refining a research topic and undertaking research that synthesises practical, theoretical and historical knowledge. The course develops advanced technical skills and a sophisticated understanding of the creative process. Critical thinking and communication skills are developed in seminar discussions and the written exegesis or thesis component. Assessment tasks, both practical and written, have real-world application to prepare graduates to make a contribution to the professional creative and performing arts industry. There is scope for the Honours year to incorporate international study tour or industry placements.

Students may have the opportunity to undertake work integrated learning through two units - Creative Practice 1 and Creative Practice 2. This workplace will be determined by alignment to research project and/or discipline. For example, dance students may on occasion have the opportunity to observe rehearsal with WAB or participate in a development of a new performance with Co3 or undertake a short residency at the PICA or the Perth Film Studios.

All applicants are required to have completed a Bachelor degree in dance, performing arts, visual arts, fine arts, screen production or creative writing, with equivalents considered, and are usually required to have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70% or higher. All applicants will be required to attend an interview and submit a written outline of a research proposal as part of an assessment of both commitment and aptitude. Dance applicants will also be required to attend an audition.
Portfolio pathway applications are not accepted for this course.
This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Bachelor Honours Degree Award.
Students may be required to attend evening and weekend workshops, rehearsals and performances. Some of these may be at locations external to ECU
