Description

This unit provides students with a practical introduction to the systems of contemporary acting practice. This unit examines the ideas of self-consciousness, fear and pretense and aims to enhance the actor’s connection with the dramatic imagination, develop their ability to work effectively, with generosity and freedom in an ensemble, and develop their range of expression and storytelling techniques.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply practical tools from contemporary acting practice philosophies to prepare the body and mind for performing.
  2. Apply empathic listening skills during acting workshops.
  3. Access and display physical and emotional experiences of primary and secondary emotions safely.
  4. Engage in script analysis and improvisation techniques, showing comprehension of process to build character.

Unit Content

  1. The Stanislavski toolkit.
  2. Creative improvisation and spontaneous free-form studio work.
  3. Creating and performance of formative movements from life.
  4. Ensemble exploration of a text for a studio showing.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
