This unit provides an introduction to teaching and learning through the arts. The unit offers opportunities for insight and experience into how significant issues can be explored using a repertoire of unique learning processes, techniques and languages specific to the arts. Students will develop critical and creative thinking by using arts processes of expressing, interpreting and communicating ideas and feelings. The techniques and processes relevant to the art forms of drama, media arts and dance will be introduced, thereby developing an understanding of how these art forms are an essential component of education.
Some off campus class times are scheduled out of usual business hours to provide flexibility to the off campus students enrolling in their 'timetabled class time' (which applies to the weeks that are scheduled as synchronous weeks).

Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies
Workshop activities and discussion. Presentations using ICT. Off campus students are required to enrol in a timetabled off campus class time and attend that synchronous online class when it is scheduled on specific weeks during the semester. Some weeks will be asynchronous delivery weeks for off campus students. Off campus students are required to have a digital device that has a working camera for synchronous online classes and recording. All students are required to meet the participation requirement to pass this unit.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
