Description

In this unit, students will complete the tasks of data analysis and discuss their research findings. A final research report is written taking account, inter alia, of the limitations of the study.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from COU6228

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Design and implement a workable research project in the area of counselling and psychotherapy.
  2. Devise a research project that meet University Ethics protocols.
  3. Evaluate the application of quantitative and qualitative research in counselling and psychotherapy.
  4. Produce an oral presentation of a research plan for peer review.
  5. Synthesise a consideration of research data into a meaningful research report.

Unit Content

  1. Analysis and synthesis of findings.
  2. Ethical considerations for reserach.
  3. Research proposal.
  4. Written research reports, including a literature review, research findings, discussion and reflection on results.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS

Additional Learning Experience Information

One-on-one supervision with a member of the counselling academic staff competent in the student's chosen research area. Occasional small group tutorials to provide support and peer review.

GS2 GRADING SCHEMA 2 Used for Undifferentiated Pass/Fail units inc. practical units or work-integrated learning

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
