Description

Students will develop their skills in managing information units within enterprises, including analysis and design of services; the management of human, material and financial resources; marketing and evaluation techniques; networking and resource sharing.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from CSI1241

Students must pass 60 credit points at levels 2

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Adopt, adapt and apply management and marketing strategies, tools and techniques to solve complex team and service-level problems.
  2. Critically evaluate and improve individual performance in a team and/or service environment.
  3. Critically evaluate management theory and its relevance and applicability to information services in large organisations.

Unit Content

  1. Information Services to include; marketing information services, controlling information services, resourcing information services and careers in information services.
  2. Management Basics to include; foundations of management, understanding the environment, strategic planning and management and project planning and management.
  3. Managing People including; organisational behaviour, groups and teams, managing change and Leadership.
  4. The focus in this unit is on the management of information technology service teams within large organisations. The following broad areas of management theory are discussed and selectively applied within this focus.

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
