Description

This unit is for those who wish to extend their skill set into the area of scripting technologies. Using widely deployed industry standard scripting languages, the unit will focus on creating scripts to automate tasks, interface with external services and extend the capabilities of pre-existing software.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse and evaluate scripted software in order to ensure reliability and security of developed solutions.
  2. Design, develop and deploy scripted software solutions to perform desired tasks.
  3. Use industry standard scripting languages to create software-based solutions.

Unit Content

  1. Auditing and evaluation of scripts for reliability and security.
  2. Automating tasks using advanced scripting techniques.
  3. Developing scripts to make use of pre-existing software.
  4. Utilisation of external services and network resources.
  5. Advanced command line techniques.
  6. Scripting runtime environments.
  7. Programming paradigms relating to programming / scripting archetypes.
