Description

This unit is designed to introduce the Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques used for making machines intelligent. This unit will expose students to numerical techniques as used in neural networks, evolutionary computing and fuzzy logic systems.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Solve real world problems by applying a range of computational intelligence techniques.
  2. Investigate appropriate intelligent system solutions for a range of complex computational intelligence applications.
  3. Collaboratively develop and demonstrate an intelligence system and its associated techniques and algorithms.

Unit Content

  1. Introduction to AI concepts.
  2. Rule-based and fuzzy logic systems.
  3. Machine learning techniques for intelligent systems including artificial neural networks and evolutionary algorithms.
  4. Hybrid intelligent systems.
  5. Introduction to deep learning.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
