This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan and manage technical, creative and logistical aspects of small-scale live productions. Individuals who apply these skills are expected to display a high level of initiative and judgement as they take responsibility for organising, planning and coordinating the work of individuals and teams involved in staging productions. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Evidence of the ability to: - plan and organise technical and creative aspects of at least one live small-scale production - plan and organise technical and creative rehearsals - manage and monitor pre-production operations - manage, monitor and maintain operations during show - manage post-production activities. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.
To complete the unit requirements the individual must: - explain the roles and production requirements of technical crew, front of house and artistic teams - describe key aspects of creative and technical production processes required for different types of live productions - describe issues and challenges that typically arise when managing live productions and suggest ways of addressing them explain how the following relate to the management of live productions: - security of information - duty of care under common law - anti-discrimination - industrial awards and enterprise agreements - work health and safety requirements - describe basic meeting procedures.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to: - a performance venue - equipment and resources required to stage productions. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
