This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop construction plans and specifications to meet props requirements for productions in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries. It involves interpreting creative designs, planning the construction of sets, finalising plans and communicating them to required personnel This unit applies to those who display a high level of initiative and judgement as they take a range of practical factors into account when planning the development of the plans. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: develop set construction plans for productions according to at least two different set designs. In the course of the above, the candidate must: interpret design concepts and meet their requirements that include: o deadlines o budgets o technical feasibility o workability of plans o creativity of plans communicate effectively with designers and creative personnel during the planning process develop accurate specifications and drawings as the basis for set construction tasks.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: issues and challenges that typically arise when developing set construction plans, and suggest ways of addressing them techniques for creating set construction plans and specifications from designs and other visual sources construction methods used to achieve different commonly required set effects how stage dimensions and the way stages are constructed impact on planning the construction of sets cost of materials typically used to construct sets industry-standard technology used to develop set construction plans work health and safety procedures appliable to the process of planning and constructing sets.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: set designs from which construction plans can be developed technology used to develop set construction plans interaction with others. The assessment environment must include access to set designs from which construction plans can be developed Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
