This unit describes the skills and knowledge needed to identify sound requirements, and to develop and implement sound production plans that meet the creative and technical aspects of productions. It applies to individuals working as sound technicians and supervisors on a range of productions and events. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

Evidence of the ability to: - research and identify the sound requirements for productions - develop sound plans that clearly specify all production requirements - implement sound plans for at least two productions or events as part of a collaborative team - document evaluation of sound plans against production requirements. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must: - describe the elements of a sound plan - list and describe possible production requirements that may need to be considered in the development of a sound plan - explain the issues and challenges that typically arise when implementing sound plans, and how to address them - outline the work health and safety (WHS) principles of safe listening, including safeguards against hearing loss.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to: - relevant equipment - productions or events where sound is required - relevant production documentation - interaction with others. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. Informal vivas may be conducted as part of an assessment task, where staff require further information to confirm the learning outcomes have been met. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.
