Description

This unit allows students to develop skills in the creation and manipulation of digital media, which then can be applied to choreographic processes. The unit will cover the authoring of video content or delivery through fixed media storage such as DVD. The emphasis is on increasing awareness of the technology and its application in the field of dance. Topics covered include image manipulation, video equipment, video editing and video compression. Focusing on still and dynamic graphic images, students explore 2D, 3D, digital audio and video software.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from DAN2136

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply the above skills to a screen-based outcome.
  2. Have a working knowledge of 2D still and motion based software: DSLR, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro.
  3. Integrate audio tracks into motion software.
  4. Produce a variety of outcomes with digital media currently available through Academy software and associated hardware.

Unit Content

  1. Occupational, Health and Safety Issues will be covered within the course: Awareness of visual, aural, physical & electrical hazards.
  2. Output and Presentation: Storyboarding, Compressor - Making DVD. Distribution of media. Presentation of finished media.
  3. Still image manipulation: Fundamentals of Pixel based manipulation, capture techniques, selection, retouching of media, filters & obtaining plug-ins, output of various types of media.
  4. Video manipulation: Movie 2 Fundamentals of capture and manipulation of stored video & audio footage. Final Cut Pro 7 acquiring and organising media in FCP, basic editing, composting & effects, audio editing.
