Description

This unit equips candidate mathematics teachers with the necessary skills to teach the fundamental algebra concepts mandated by the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics (Years 7 to 10). Candidates explore the Number and Algebra content strands that need to be mastered by school students before they may embark on more abstract algebraic concepts in the late secondary years. The unit introduces and/or consolidates best practices in teaching the relevant content strands. Pedagogical strategies for teaching these contents are examined. Quality teaching resources and tools for promoting classroom participation are introduced. Teacher candidates plan learning activities, mathematics lessons, and assessments aligned with the Curriculum.
