Description

This unit provides an introduction to the management of construction projects and site works. Relevant standards, contract laws, tender processes, and works documentation are all covered. Issues concerning the use of sustainable construction practices, and minimisation of impacts on the construction workforce and the surrounding environment will be discussed. The full range of OH&S issues that might affect on-site staff will also be included.

Prerequisite Rule

All students must pass 1 units from ENS2159, ENS5159, ENS6139 AND Honours level students only must pass 1 units from ENS2260

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge of leadership strategies for managing contractors and clients, and conflict resolution.
  2. Develop OH&S plans for construction site works.
  3. Identify and apply relevant laws applicable to construction projects.
  4. Prepare contract documents and tenders acknowledging cultural and environmental impacts.
  5. Apply contemporary site practices and tools for efficient delivery of site management solutions for construction projects.

  2. Construction contract documents, and management of contracts.
  3. Quality Management systems and auditing.
  4. Project control, planning and scheduling.
  5. Resource allocations and budgeting.
  6. OH&S on construction sites.
  7. Management of construction site workflows.
  8. Environmental management of construction sites and surrounding areas.
  9. Data-centric models and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
