This unit supports candidates to develop a systematic, critical and independent approach to reviewing scholarly literature relevant to their research area with an emphasis on critical judgement, academic integrity, and the effective use of literature to inform research direction and design. Candidates will evaluate contemporary research, theories and evidence to understand the current state of knowledge and identify areas of debate, limitation and opportunity within their discipline. Candidates will develop the skills required to locate, assess, synthesise and organise complex bodies of literature, and to construct a coherent and critical literature review that situates their proposed research within an appropriate scholarly context.
Candidates are expected to meet regularly with their supervisors.
Unit is open to enrolment for candidates in J42 and J43 courses only.
In this unit, students will be developing the following capabilities:
All learning experiences are delivered online and attendance at scheduled virtual classes is expected.
On-campus attendance at scheduled classes in designated weeks is expected, intermitted with periods of online learning.
This is a Learning Unit. Learning Units engage students in regular learning activities to develop their knowledge, skills, and capabilities. Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. Informal vivas may be conducted as part of an assessment task, where staff require further information to confirm the learning outcomes have been met. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant School Progression Panel.
