As the third work integrated learning unit, NPP6108 builds on the knowledge and skills gained in Stages 1 and 2. Through collaborative learning, students will explore the recognition of patients across the lifespan who are experiencing acute deterioration, define their role within the interprofessional team in the clinical management and escalation of care in a variety of health care settings. This unit includes 240 hours (6 weeks) of clinical placement as part of the work integrated learning (WIL) component.
Students may undertake practicum hours out of the standard timetable. Refer to the School of Nursing and Midwifery J46 practicum timetable.
Must have passed Nursing Practice 1 (NPP6106), Nursing Practice 2 (NPP6107), Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology 1 (NSC6101), Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology 2 (NSC6102) and Fundamentals of Nursing (NCS6101).
Only students studying in J46 can enrol in this unit.
Students are required to complete Recognising and Responding to Deterioration (NSC6103) and Nursing Practice 3 (NPP6108) concurrently or alternatively complete Recognising and Responding to Deterioration (NSC6103) prior to completing Nursing Practice 3 (NPP6108).

Students are also required to complete clinical placement totalling 240 hours in total may include medical/surgical/community/mental health/speciality placement. Additionally, pre-identified clinical practicum periods may change with minimal notice to students due to circumstances outside the control of the school.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
