Description

This unit is designed to enable undergraduate students to undertake a project, involving an international offshore/onshore experience, which is relevant to an environmental discipline associated with their course of study. This unit aims to provide students with personal experience of environmental science/management discipline within an international context. The project will provide students with an opportunity to draw together theory and practice in the country or region visited. Acceptance to this unit will be by application only. Students will be required to submit a project proposal prior to undertaking the study tour.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

Outbound study tours will be conducted on exchange partner institution campus and will involve pre-departure and post-departure meetings on ECU campus. Inbound study tours will have a portion of on-campus delivery.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse recent trends in the internationalisation and globalisation of the relevant environmental science discipline area.
  2. Analyse the complexities of the relevant environmental science discipline area in an international context.
  3. Evaluate the major social, political, cultural and economic challenges facing the environmental science discipline area.
  4. Within a team context, analyse the importance of cross cultural skills and cultural awareness by exploring the interrelationships between cultures.

  1. Cultural elements and sensitivities.
  2. Group dynamics.
  3. International contexts of the environmental discipline.
  4. Legal frameworks and government regulations.
  5. Project methodology.
  6. Social structures.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Participation in an intensive study tour to a country or region. The study tour involves a combination of lectures, briefings, meetings, group presentations and site visits depending on the location of the tour. Students attend a number of pre departure meetings prior to the commencement of the program.
