Description

This unit is designed to provide in-depth and practical experience in environmental management. This unit takes the form of independent study in one of three possible modes. First students may elect to complete a professional practice project involving work integrated learning with a company or agency in the environmental management area. Second, students can undertake a research project in an environmental management discipline under the direct supervision of an academic staff member. Third, students may undertake an in-depth investigation of an important environmental management issue. Not all modes will be available each year.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Formulate a research proposal addressing one or more specific research questions in the field of environmental management.
  2. Evaluate relevant information from the literature to support a project.
  3. Analyse collected data or apply appropriate management frameworks relevant to a specific environmental question.
  4. Interpret results in relation to a specific environmental management question.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to produce a comprehensive written report in the field of environmental management.

Unit Content

  1. Preparation of a plan for a project which clearly describes the objectives, proposed methodology, and timetable for the project.
  2. Identification of specific topics in environmental management relating to the project.
  3. Independently undertaking a major project including critical analysis and evaluation of data.
  4. Preparation of a significant written report which details the work undertaken in the project.
  5. Reflection on the process of undertaking the project.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
