The unit engages with contemporary screenwriting, focusing on both the self-contained drama and the serial format, such as the web series, to provide students with an understanding of these distinct yet interconnected storytelling mediums. Students will learn the art and craft of creating engaging narratives in both formats, how each influences script structure, character development, dialogue, subtext and visual storytelling. The unit will cover the screenwriter's role, exploring the script development process from initial idea to final product. Students will produce screenplays through practical exercises and assessments, applying the theoretical concepts and practical skills learned in the class to their creative projects.
